Air Compressor Use in Agriculture and Farming

Farming is a tradition that goes back generations in many parts of our great country. From the initial settlers until now, farming, and agriculture in general, has played a pivotal role in the development and success of the American economy and culture. From sunup to sundown, farmers are known for their work ethic and sheer grit. Where everything is earned and back breaking tasks are made routine, for many this is a way of life and less of an industry. Although the work is still tough, advances have been made to assist those in agriculture and help make their lives easier.

One innovation that many folks are unaware of is that air compressors have been staples of the farming and agriculture industry for decades. The progress has been so great that air compressors are in fact helping to pioneer new and efficient ways of farm maintenance, crop production, and transportation. Have a look through some of the more common applications that are, or can be, powered by compressors!

  • Hand Tools: Pneumatic staplers, sprayers, and nail guns are all types of hand tools that are powered by compressed air. Are you needing to paint your new barn, re-enforce fencing, or put up new structures? An air compressor can save you a lot of time and we all know that time is money.
  • Inflating Flat Tires: Wheels are what run (besides an engine) some of your more important farm equipment vessels like a tractor, truck or ATV. A flat tire can hinder progress and cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars a day. Air compressors come in all different shapes and sizes, from stationary to portable, that can keep tires inflated or reflate them quickly from almost anywhere.
  • Crop Protection: Pests can be a huge killer for crops like maize, tomatoes and a variety of fruits to name a few. The use of special spraying machines partnered with an air compressor can make protecting your crop so much easier.
  • Automatic Milking: Milking robots are becoming commonplace in the dairy industry. By utilizing pneumatically-controlled milking robots, dairy farmers can increase efficiency and profits by utilizing compressed air in this process.
  • Cleaning: There is no better way to quickly and efficiently clean production or staging areas than by the use of compressed air.
  • Winterizing Irrigation Lines: Air compressors are huge helpers when it comes to clearing irrigation lines of any excess water to prep for the winter months. This can help you save money on repairs and also on irrigation line replacements

Although this was not a comprehensive list of all the ways compressed air has benefited the farming and agriculture community, it does go to show the growing value of this resource in this important industry.
